Augmented Reality iPad (Novartis)

Role: UX design, wireframes only. The UI was done by a third party.

Understanding advanced systemic mastocytosis (AdvSM). Advanced Systemic Mastocytosis is a group of rare mast cell disorders where uncontrolled cell growth has spread to more than one part of your body, and is stopping your body from working.

Problem: Our client wanted a unique way to educate and illustrate the issues of AdvSM for doctors at their EU conferences where multiple languages exist in country to country. They wanted to present a challenge to attending doctors that would educate while entertaining them by showing 3 types of patients with the disease.

Solution: We presented the idea of an Augmented Reality experience for multiple conferences in the EU where the language could easily be changed. The experience would be accessed through an ipad on the conference floor. The user would be taken through a series of screens that presented questions and answers that would illustrate the issues of the desease while offering a small challenge to the attendees.

Prototype: Wireframes were developed to illustrate the process of using the interface and the screens the user would be presented with during the question and answer process. The body image was used to illustrate symptoms related to user selections. This iterative process culminated in wireframes that were passed off to the developers.

Outcome: The successful AR product was used at conferences in Spain, Italy, Britain and France.

The actual UI and build were a third party design using our UX.

Brainstorming exercises, affinity maps and research led to rough wiresframes.
responsive priview
The fun, defining feature of this project was to use the ipad as a viewport into the virtual world the app lives in. As you progress, the screens animate out to the sides but can be viewed by simply swinging the ipad around to view them again. Simultaneously the user can view the existing space behind the ipad where the app figures are projected.
Selecting buttons on the ipad will advance the user through a sequence of screens. The figure can be rotated to show all sides of the human body (male or female figure selected in the settings) This is a very engaging experience.
A choice of three desease states are presented for the user to choose.
The user can select which diagnostic experience topic to test their knowledge.
Opening screen for the selected path AdvSM.
Secondary screens showing the user selecting topics and drilling down through a series of questions.
A review of questions results and diagnosis by the user.
The results of the testing are shown and a learn more button is presented.
